Thesis Statement
The Long Way Around
By
Jenna Martin
My thesis embarks on an immersive journey through the realms of mythology and fantasy, fueled by an exploration of Norse mythological creatures, a comparative analysis of American cryptids, and an exploration of the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) mythos. This multifaceted research endeavor unveils a rich tapestry of fantastical beings spanning diverse cultures and traditions, laying the foundation for a compelling graphic novel pitch that intertwines elements of Norse mythology and D&D lore. Through meticulous research and creative ingenuity, I sought to breathe new life into characters from a dormant D&D campaign.
The comparative study of Norse mythology and American cryptids serves as a springboard for the graphic novel pitch, offering insights into the cultural significance and enduring appeal of mythical beings. Drawing upon these insights, the narrative unfolds as old characters from a forgotten D&D campaign are resurrected, their journeys intertwined with the rich tapestry of Norse mythology and the immersive lore of D&D. As they traverse fantastical landscapes and encounter mythical creatures both ancient and new, echoes of timeless legends resonate throughout the narrative, captivating readers and immersing them in a world where myth and magic intertwine.
By melding elements of mythology, fantasy, and LGBTQ+ representation, it not only honors the rich tapestry of human experience but also paves the way for a more inclusive and diverse literary landscape. Through the exploration of mythical creatures and the imaginative fusion of Norse mythology and D&D lore.
